Hanvon B10 BC10C BIOS UPDATE !!!!

Yes, Yes,
Bios Update is here,

as we all know there are a few different version of Bios on the Hanvon Touchpad,
if you were one of the first or early adopters then your bios will be the same as my one,
but it seems every new shipment brings a new bios version,
Version 1.0 (first models which came out)
Version 1.2
Version 1.3
and now,
Version 1.8

Bios info and link below,
i dont have my touchpad with me today,
but will be updating it tomorrow....

The bios update is attached. Installation instructions (as sent from Hanvon):
1. Run “WinFLASH.bat”.
2. A "dos" window will pop-up. Confirm it.
3. The B10 will automatically turn off.
4. Restart the computer, enter the BIOS and make sure the version is 1.8; choose to "load defaults".

Version 1.8

You have to start the setup from within DOS itself.

Extract directory/folder "3500 1.8??BIOS" into C: drive.
Rename the Folder to BIOS
Open Command Prompt (CMD) and type:
cd/BIOS
Press Enter on keyboard and type:
WinFLASH.bat
Press Enter, it should start the setup and follow on screen instructions...

incase needed original bios version 1.0 (A.1.0)

  3. My Hanvon is Model No. BC10C-A0347AU and an Intel CULV model processor.

    BIOS updating

From 1.0 [same checksum as copy provided at forum] having serious power problems.

To 1.8 (supposedly intended for another Intel CPU) now with zero power issues!

I can now unplug [switch to battery operation] without it losing power! In other words it doesn't give me crap when I want to take it portable, that is remove it off a stand I bought for it from usb.brando.com

Hibernates perfectly, except leaving it to expend battery completely during Sleep loses the operating system state - I think that's normal for Sleep and a depleted battery, unsure. Why it can be better to enter Hibernate which uses no power whatsoever, it's plenty fast too.

NOTE: As the flash program so rudely cuts power to the system it warrants queuing an integrity check against the file system, so make the following actions prior running WinFLASH.bat
Open a CMD prompt, then type D: and hit enter [in fact open something, that is lock a file, on drive D]
Enter these commands instructing them to NOT dismount the drive but to run at next start.
    CHKDSK.exe D: /F
    CHKDSK.exe C: /F
Finish your work and close all disk hitting processes, if you got it run Sysinternals' Sync -r -e
Close the CMD prompt [that's right, not only is it unnecessary [you'll see] to run the flash at the prompt, for me it didn't perform the flash while doing so just returned.]
Wait some seconds for disk activity to end, and execute WinFLASH.bat
With a USB keyboard hold down F2 as the PC is booting, at BIOS screen, load setup optimal defaults, make other tweaks, save and exit. You're done.

    GAMES played well so far

World of Goo [expects keyboard input for your profile name] One solution is to combine a "Flick" action with an AutoHotkey script e.g. NumpadMult::Send yournickname
    Osmos
    Samorost 2
Star Wars: Empire At War [would be superb if some major nuisances such as scrolling the play field and keeping your units highlighted were improved]
Spore [one keyboard entry required otherwise it's an ideal game]
Max and the Magic Marker [keyboard input for character movement]

    GAMES played not so well

The Whispered World won't run at anything but 1024x768 [sad sad Sadwick]
Ghostbusters: The Video Game plays but not so well at a slideshow framerate.
Civilization V struggles against the intro video and when I set it to skip the intro, the game cursor is visible but the menu is not, both DirectX 11 and DirectX 9 modes tested.

    VIDEO playback top notch

For smooth playback of 1080P content [OF not AT 1920*1080 through HDTV although not fully tested] there is no other choice but Media Player Classic Home Cinema, grestest support for more formats using DXVA hardware! Get it at http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/

  4. Celeron inside I must add.

By the way, I'm liking Stardock's free [url=http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/]Fences[/url] desktop program very much for touchscreen use.

  5. Intel®Celeron ULV 743(1.3GHz)
This one sold by Officeworks: http://www.hanvon.com/en/products/touchpad/touchpad_B10.html

Noting also I've got the Ralink RT3090BC4 / SparkLAN WiFi & Bluetooth combo module and two WAEISO3 antennas on order from www.oxfordtec.com as I loath the current stack, and the device is in need of 802.11n for better indoor reception.

The fact it's half height to the present 3DSP card has got me concerned because there will be no screw securing it down to the board?

And I wonder whether or not I can just pull out the existing aerials without yanking on any components or wires.

In any case ... I'm done.

  6. BUCKAROO -
    Cheers for the info,
changing the folder name to BIOS and then running the command worked,

I got my Touchpad from Australia Officeworks,

if any game doesnt fit into the windows you can right click on the game shortcut and go to properties, and in the Target field add: -window at the end.

the antenna will come of easily,
one is located under the battery the other i think was near to the screen...
to add the card i use a lolly pop stick,
trimmed it down and screwed it in over the card so it hold it down,
    electrical tape will also work,
or you can buy the adapater to cover it to a full size pcie card...

Bugger! The UK / EU site neither the Canada site for that matter have got the Universal metallic holder / extension plate for half size minicard / mini pci express (mPCIe) half size adapters [WA-MPCIE-HH].

lol a lolly pop stick. Thanks you, DJACID! I'll be getting my adapter then from the US store. I'm in WAustralia, having obtained my HanWang from Ozborne Park Officeworks. =P

  9. You will notice a big difference once you use installed the new combo card,
    specially with steams and downloads,
with the 3dsp card i couldnt get BBC HD or sport HD to play,
    after changing the card,
    it has been working perfectly,

I had my touchpad sent from Australia,
if it came out 6 months earlier would have picked it up myself,
but got my mate to send it to me...

I have students sdtaying with me and when he starts up his Tablet a message reads press hotkey to restore system, then nothing else happens.
